Cult Beauty Review: Nars Orgasm Blush
Wednesday, 23 April 2008
Continuing on my quest to personally get around to sampling and reviewing all these 'cult classic' beauty buys I've been hearing about for years, I've finally purchased Nars blush in Orgasm. I've heard a lot about this product. It's supposed to be THE perfect blush - suiting all complexions, matching all other makeup and generally being the perfect halfway point between peach and pink with the tiniest bit of shimmer to make you glow.

82831.jpgWith a list of claims like that, it's fairly inevitable this product won't be as sensational as expected. So with that in mind, I was pretty surprised when I found it's actually fairly close to the truth.

I bought the original powder version of this blush, simply because I already have two stain blushes and I thought I could use one with this consistency.
I've heard critics of Orgasm claim that it's too sheer and too glittery, but on my exceptionally pale one-shade-darker-than-liquid-paper skin it's neither. On the contrary if anything, it has a tendency to go on a little heavy, but I'm a blush kind of girl and I find that quite manageable. On the other hand, I'm pretty shimmer/glitter sensitive so I was fairly apprehensive about applying something that folks had purported to be 'sparkly'. Despite this, I can honestly say it doesn't look at all sparkly on me. Conversely, it makes my skin look a bit 'glowy' but I can't detect the shimmer on my skin that I can see in the palette.

As for the colour, well it really is a peach-pink. Will it suit everyone? This is by far the silliest claim I've ever heard. Of *course* it's not going to suit everyone! It's a colour like every other colour - it's not magic! For example, I imagine it'd look fairly disastrous on girls with strawberry-blonde hair as it'd probably get into the clash category.

The wear-time of this isn't so great however, but that may be down to the new primer I'm trying (more on that later). Might also have something to do with my skin. I'm yet to use a blush that still looks in the evening like it did in the morning!

On the whole though, I'd buy this again and I'd recommend others give it a go. I'm not entirely confident that it's the be all and end all of blushes that it's held up to be, but then does such a thing really exist?
