The Perils of Online Shopping...
Friday, 20 June 2008
Okay… don't get me wrong. I'm a massive advocate of shopping online. I've made some pretty large purchases in the electronic environment - a pedigree cat, designer handbags, and most recently I made an offer on a house, sight unseen, from the UK - having seen it online.

Tryvertising
Monday, 16 June 2008
Image When I lived in the UK, I was part of a trial programme for new beauty products. I filled in a survey, paid my 20 quid a quarter (with a guarantee of receiving at least 80 pounds worth of loot in each batch) and then, like clockwork, received my tube of full-sized products to try out. So here's what I want to know… it's been proven time and time again that us beauty junkies like to try before we buy. So without a similiar Australian program, where are the best places to try before we buy?

Cult Beauty Review: Nars Orgasm Blush
Wednesday, 23 April 2008
Continuing on my quest to personally get around to sampling and reviewing all these 'cult classic' beauty buys I've been hearing about for years, I've finally purchased Nars blush in Orgasm. I've heard a lot about this product. It's supposed to be THE perfect blush - suiting all complexions, matching all other makeup and generally being the perfect halfway point between peach and pink with the tiniest bit of shimmer to make you glow.

Here's To Brown
Wednesday, 19 March 2008
I don't know why, but I always rather dismissed brown mascara as something old, dowdy or a bit hippyish women wore.

I've Found It!
Wednesday, 12 March 2008
I've found it... the holy grail... the one reasonable use for Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. You may recall I posted a little while ago about how Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is the world's most useless cult beauty product . Luckily, I've found a good use for it.

Stockings That Give You Skinnier Legs
Wednesday, 05 March 2008

Okay folks. I have here what may just be the best 'beauty' product ever. The subject of this post says it all. Wear the stockings, get skinnier legs. I wouldn't have believed it myself unless I'd tried it, but I've been wearing them a week now and the results say it all.

Cult Beauty Product Review - Guerlain Meteorites
Thursday, 21 February 2008
I remember the fuss Meteorites caused, three counters over when I worked on the shop floor. Guerlain could NEVER keep them in stock - it was ridiculous. Every time they'd get them in, the consultants would spend the day calling all the people who'd been to ask about them in the last however many months, and without fail they'd all show up in parade fashion over the course of the following Saturday to pick up their prized meteorites like they were the rarest of diamonds.

Cult Product Reviews - Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream
Friday, 01 February 2008

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is possibly the original cult product. You know how you read magazines and they'll claim such-and-such was the 'first' supermodel? Well I'm gonna claim Eight Hour Cream started the cult trend.

Word on the street is that Eight Hour Cream was first developed during the second world war as a treatment for burns. The highly, highly moisturising nature of the stuff made it a good product to market to the masses in an era when the motto for 'creams' was something along the lines of 'the heavier the better'.

Budget Brand o' The Month - Rimmel
Friday, 25 January 2008
rimmeleyeshadow.jpg
Regular readers will recall that late last year I waxed lyrically about the wonders of Maybelline . Great price, great product, and actually does what it says on the packet. Joy! My new love however, is Rimmel. Some time ago when I first started posting on NSO I mentioned how much I like Rimmel's double-ended eyeliner... but you'll be pleased to know I can now happily inform you there's much more to like about Rimmel than just their eyeliner.

Cult Product Reviews - Clarins' Beauty Flash Balm
Monday, 21 January 2008

It occured to me recently that there's a bunch of products out there that I've been meaning to try for years because of their cult status, but I've never gotten around to it - either because I'm waiting to use up what I already have in that category, or I'm have a cheapskate moment when I go to buy said product and end up going for a cheaper alternative.

Rediscovering Old Favourites
Thursday, 06 December 2007
I know all products have a shelf life... the general rule of thumb for those that don't have a use-by date is to have them finished off or thrown out within three years of leaving the factory. But three years is a pretty long time, right? And I honestly don't understand how powder-based products like eyeshadow and a powder blush can really go 'off' and it's these ones that I'm guilty of holding on to.
