Christmas Reading for Kids and Kids at Heart

Just in case all the baking, tree trimming, shopping, socialising, crafting, wrapping and giving hasn’t filled your Christmas quota, why not snuggle in at night and share a heart warming Christmas story with your little ones? Nothing but The Night Before Christmas can be read on the 24th, naturally, so give these old and new stories a go during the festive season and prepare for an onslaught of the warm and fuzzies!

For Fancy Nancy, too much tinsel is never enough and everything sparkly is simply splendiferous! She’s bought a shiny new tree topper, but when things don’t turn out her way, can Christmas still be marvellous? ($17.53 from BookDepository)

How about Olive the Other Reindeer, a story of a slightly confused canine who mishears the lyrics to “Rudolph The Red Nosed reindeer” and trots off to the north pole to take her place with “All of the other reindeer”? Cute modern art illustrations make this book an absolute delight! ($29.95 from weheartbooks)

A year round favourite, Lynley Dodd’s mischievous Slinky Malinki gets the Christmas treatment in Slinky Malinki’s Christmas Crackers – what will he do to the beautifully trimmed tree? ($21.99 at the abcshop)

I’m loving Usborne’s Christmas Things to Stitch and Sew, full of simple craft ideas for kids learning to sew. What better way to create a treasured Christmas heirloom? ($12.99 from Fishpond)

Gingerbread Pirates? Why not? Jim has made pirate gingerbread men to leave out for Santa, but just can’t part with Captain Cookie, so he keeps him by his bed. That night, Captain Cookie sets off on a swashbuckling adventure to save his mates from a cannibal named Santa Claus! (US$9.93 at Amazon)

Want to introduce your youngins to the classics? The whacky rhyming of Dr Seuss makes the all-time favourite, How The Grinch Stole Christmas a fun read for young and old ($9.99 at Fishpond); while Dicken’s A Christmas Carol is so gosh darn good it’s not been out of print since it was first published in 1843! ($20.95 from BookDepository).
