Did you ever pile so much shampoo on your hair as a kid that you could make it stand straight on end?

Chances are, the shampoo came in that familiar yellow bottle which promised (and mostly delivered) ‘No More Tears’ – and comfortingly, that bottle has hardly changed in 50 years of bath time (or, 50 Years of Joyful Baths, as they are calling it).

Johnson & Johnson probably made the first product you were bathed with, but nowadays tots have more choice of product than you do – who needs a humble bubble bath (albeit available in several scents) when you could have a luxurious Baby Milk Bath, a calming Bedtime Bath, or an exclusive Soothing blend of organic olive oil extract and Vitamin E should bub suffer from dryness.

They do lotions, washes, wipes, soap – and all of them have that gorgeous ‘baby’ smell they somehow managed to bottle (or, convince us that’s what babies smell like).

Personally, I can attest to the Baby Wipes as a must-have – even with a tot out of nappies, these are brilliant in your handbag for sticky hands and grubby faces (for the whole family, especially Daddy after KFC) and when using them for their primary purpose of cleaning dirty bottoms, they win hands down.

If you’re desperate for some shut eye and don’t want to waste precious minutes with a fancy cleansing routine, they’re also great for quickly removing makeup. Yes folks, an all round wonder product (as is the Baby Oil, aside from a gentle massage oil for baby, you can use it on dry skin for an instant fix)!

The Moisturising Body Wash also gets a run from all members of our household (soap free and leaves your skin sooo soft), as does the classic Baby Bath – I’m not a fan of the sickly sweet smells of most bubble baths but this is only lightly aromatic in the nicest possible way, and it bubbles up a treat; which, let’s face it, has always been the most important factor of a ‘joyful bath’ for generations of kids!
