Play Fashion Stylist with Polyvore
One of the great eternal questions for shopaholics when shopping is ‘What will I wear this with?’ There is no point having a wardrobe full of beautiful clothes that can’t be worn together. So a rather neat little website that will help you fit any future purchases (or even just your current wardrobe) together is Polyvore.
Polyvore is your online fashion scrapbook. You can pull together outfits using any picture you can find to create your ultimate outfit using the very simple drop and drag editor (shown below).
There are a couple of features that really sold me on the polyvore editor. Firstly, once you’ve dropped your image in, you can actually resize them.
So for example, the chanel necklace to the right was a lot bigger when I dropped it, so I resized it to make it a bit smaller.
Secondly, and this is really cool, wondering if that full skirt will match with the fitted top you have in mind? Just drop the top over the skirt and polyvore will layer the top over the skirt so you can check out how they work together. This for me is a fantastic option, because I sometimes find it hard to visualise these things (or imagine myself looking like the model in an image, forgetting I do not have model like proportions) and get a bit of a suprise when I get my items!
Polyvore comes chock full of existing images from heaps of brands which you can search on, and most importantly, each image contains a link to the shop which stocks the item. And its not just US stores, with plenty of Witchery items already on polyvore, you can style your Witchery outfit then head down to the store to purchase it. Some other australian stores include My Catwalk, Madaboochoo, Six on Six, Valley Girl, French Connection, Frockshop and Dinosaur Designs.
To grab images of items that are not already on Polyvore, you just download a bookmarklet which will let you snap an image to use in Polyvore (for non techies, just a kind of toolbar add on). Do keep in mind that the best images should have a white background.
As with most sites these days, you can check out other users sets, mark users who’s style you love as a favourite, and there are even competitions for the best set which you get a little brag badge if you win.
My advice though? Don’t explore this is you are short on time, as I ended up wasting several hours playing around with it :)
