Rose Street Artists Market
It was a gorgeous day in Melbourne this Saturday, so I took advantage of it by checking out one of Melbourne’s lesser known markets, the Rose Street Artist Market.
I’d never heard much about this market but came across their website and thought it sounded like something I’d like. That was about four months ago (it takes me awhile to find a Saturday when I don’t already have plans).
Set up in an old junkyard, the market promised up to 50 emerging and established Melbourne Designers and Artists. And it was very cool!
The thing that really blew me away with this market was the quality of merchandise on offer – there is a mixture of clothing (for guys and girls), accessories and artwork. It’s a small market, you don’t need more than an hour to do the market, but it’s well worth it.
One of our first stops was Mr Bucket, a range of guys and girls tees and hoodies featuring Mr Bucket,
and international mystery man and the very cool retro Movie Range . All the tees come packed in a bucket and are 100% cotton. These would make a great present.
The tees come in both girls and guys styles, and Mr Bucket also features a range of retro movie tees – I know its a bit hard to see but the pink tee in the bottom of the photo is a Breakfast and Tiffany’s tee, and the one that I really liked was the tshirt with the Attack of the 50 foot woman tee.
Massima Ricci was showcasing some fantastic canvas artwork, husband and I were totally torn – I wanted the three set of Alice in Wonderland prints, he wanted to go for the retro robot look. The retro robot prints were very cute, but I just love the colours in the Alice and Wonderland prints.
Another stall I really loved was Maru Design, who had an awesome range of Perspex and wooden jewellery. The wooden cloud brooch was calling me and calling me, and now I totally regret not getting it.
Other things I totally fell in love with – the scrabble cufflinks shown here, the stall selling notbooks made with recycled vintage and retro book covers, the stall that was selling hersheys chocolate candles (smelt divine!) and the messenger totes that told a little story on the front.
The Rose Street Artists Market is open every Saturday from 11am – 5pm at 60 Rose Street , Fitzroy (between Nicholson St and Brunswick St). Entry is free. If you are heading their via Public Transport, your best bet is to catch the 96 from Bourke St or the 112 from Collins St. We drove, and for parking I recommend Nicholson St – there are heaps of spots that the parking time restrictions end at 12.30pm, so you don’t have to worry about clock watching. You can check out the Rose St website here.
Also, I would like to say a big thank you to all the lovely stallholders who happily let me snap away with my digital camera – appreciated!
