Hand Cream – Your Questions Answered!

‘Hello, I am trying to find a nice (as natural as possible) hand cream that contains SPF in it. I’m starting to worry that my hands will age before the rest of me so I need a hand cream that is very moisturising and will look after my hands. Thank you! – Laura’

Oh Laura, you’re a girl after my own heart. I actually used to wear driving gloves back in my uni days when I drove a lot – I was that paranoid about the adverse effects of UV. These days, I keep a handcream in my car. My favourite hand cream in the whole world that I think meets your requirements is Dermalogica’s Multivitamin Hand and Nail treatment – has an SPF of 15+ and coming from a line developed by Dermatologists, I can’t imagine it contains many horrible nasties.

If that isn’t your cup of tea or it’s a little too pricey, on my desk currently sits a ginger and orange SOS Hand Cream treatment by Premium Spa. You can pick it up for less than $10 for a 200ml tube from Priceline. This contains a lot of natural oils and has a glycolic acid in it to help with cell renewal. Now – the catch here is that it *says* it contains an spf, but doesn’t give me a rating, so I don’t know how strong it is. At any rate, it’s not tested on animals either :-)

Remember, any product that contains a suncreen is going to have some chemicals in it. If you’re looking for a completely natural solution – I suggest gloves!

Also – don’t forget to reapply every 3 – 4 hours, otherwise your hands will be exposed to UV again and undo all your great work.
