Social Shopping Week on Never Shopped Out

This week on Never Shopped Out I’ve decided to devote all my posts to my new found discovery, Social Shopping Networks!

One of the Big New Things on the internet that I have been surprisingly slow on the uptake with is Social Networking. I have had a myspace but I mostly only got it because I realised that it can be a great way to find smaller, less well known designers. I have heard of Facebook and know enough to know that I am not up with the times because I don’t have one, but that pretty much covers my Facebook knowledge.

The funny thing is, I am not actually against social networks, I just don’t really understand their purpose. I guess part of my reticence with social networking is that with several email addresses, a mobile phone, home phone and MSN messenger I find it pretty easy to keep in touch with my social network, and the thought of adding another thing to check makes me tired. I have enough trouble remember which email I signed up for with different stores/services let alone which password I used.

I have noticed however, a new trend is Social Shopping Networks, and this I am ready to wholeheartedly embrace.

According to WikipediaSocial Shopping is a method of e-commerce in which consumers shop in a social networking environment similar to MySpace.

Social Shopping is based on the principles outlined in the wisdom of crowds where a large group of users can recommend products to each other and between them work out what to buy and which ones have the most buzz’

My interpretation – social shopping makes it easier for me to find products that I might not normally stumble across if I’m just visiting my usual sites, which is something that will always interest me.

So I’ve signed up for the major social shopping sites (all in the name of research of course!) and each day this week will feature a Social Shopping Network. This required me to download heaps of different toolbars and start to feel the burning to desire to buy lots more stuff that I really don’t need, but hey, no pain, no gain.

As someone who is coming at these from a completely fresh perspective, if you have a favourite you think I should check out, please let me know via our contact us form. I’m pretty much trying not to read to much about them so I can look at them from a fresh(ish) perseptive. Anyway, enjoy Social Shopping Week, starting on Wednesady (And perhaps freeze credit card for safety purposes. Do not say I did not warn you).
